  • I wish I had kept this bike.

  • Actually sold this a long time ago...the bike sat for almost 7 years and after revivng her...RTV sealant and crud started to come loose and blocked the oil screen starving her of oil. Once the screen was cleaned everything started working the way it was supposed to.

  • rod knock!... prepare for a rebuild!.

  • Actually found out the problem. The oil screen was filled with crap like RTV sealant from previous owners "fixes". The bike has been sold to a new owner that got this issue resolved and is now working on other gremlins that a bike this age tend to acquire.

  • Check out the "Riders of Vision" forum. There are guys there who have many years of experience working on this particular bike. My bet would be bad sensor before bad oil pump. But that is just a guess.

  • thanks. I'm actually a member there and your bet is probably right since that's what they mentioned I check after replacing the filter.

  • There's the problem the red light is on der:/ ha.

  • I worked on bikeshop around year 2000, and I think Yamaha's have pressure light set up to higher pressures, so it can light up on idle if the bike has seen road lots of miles/km and possibly wrong kind of oil in use. I think I'm not hearing anything serious from the engine.

  • Was the problem resolved?

Would interest, because the same one is my problem!

  • awesome

  • replace the motoroil... sae 20W50

  • If it has been starved for oil before and now with new parts you still have no pressure.. bearings is most likely the cause..If the oil pressure regulator was not on the pump but buy the filter you could check that ? and never ues that R.T.V in place of gaskets one small chunk can stop an oil pum dead!

  • Kinda vauge? 2003 what???

  • oil pick up straw came loose in my land rover discovery it was a small tick that went away at reving then got looser and came loose on highway,. the seal breaks and it started to suck air, and no a heavy weight oil would have made it worse, remove oil pan inspect pump. and pick up, its faster and cheeper than removing engine.
