Owosso, Michigan, is a city where people like to work hard, have fun, laugh, and party, party, party!

In this video, a train of the Owosso-headquartered Great Lakes Central Railroad is traversing the westernmost railroad crossing on Owosso's Main Street. The train is on a run to the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, which is about sixty-five miles north. Once there, the train will drop off the gambling crowd and then, with its remaining passengers, it will head about forty-five miles farther north on a springtime sightseeing tour. By about 8:00 p.m., the train will have delivered everyone safely back to Owosso where they can continue the revelry.

The last car on the train before the pushing engine is what's called the "cattle car." This is where the professional partiers ride. Though they are difficult to see, they can be heard above the traffic, the engines, and the whistles and bells.

There is history everywhere in Owosso. In this video, for example, the white-colored building in the background is the Power House Gym. For 128 years, though, the building was the Robbins Furniture store. Behind the building is a second building, which was where Robbins Furniture was manufactured. The Robbins Furniture Company/Robbins Table Company was where dining room extension tables with leaves were developed. Today, those tables are international collectors items. Robbins Furniture Company's advertising slogan was: "Its Worth the Drive to Owosso."

  • Is this where 1225 passed the other time?

  • The 1225 has used this crossing many times. However, I've never filmed it crossing here. If you're thinking about the video done as the sun was going down, that was shot on a crossing that's about two blocks to the east on the same street.

  • Nice one Shaffer! 5* Dining tables with leaves were developed in Owosso; Robbins Furniture Company? Learn something new every day!! LOL Mike

  • Hey Mike. I've been so busy that I've been kind of out of the loop lately. Nonetheless, I want you to know that I got a great chuckle out of your comment. I'm still chuckling today. You''re a great guy. Thanks
