We are a team of 5 off-road unicyclists riding from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, across the isthmus of Panama, on jungle trails. We are following an old 'gold route' used for hundreds of years by pirates and Conquistadors, but now covered with rain forest. We pulled a few of these clips together from the first day of jungle riding, will post more once we finish and have time to look through the rest. Riders: Perry Woodin, Roland Kays, Vincent LeMay, Steve Relles, Brad Stratton.
Spiny Palm tree is Caña Brava or Black Palm, I know it well and impaled my hand on it more than once.... It is covered in spines the entire trunk, and likes to grow adjacent to slippery spots where it would make a convenient handhold if not for the spines. Oh, and the leaves have spines too, and they remain strong enough to go through your boot even after it has fallen on the ground, lying hidden along other decaying leaves.
