Network DVD is delighted to announce the first ever DVD release of the cult childrens comedy SUPERGRAN - THE COMPLETE FIRST SERIES (PG), available in a 2-disc set on 10th August 2009, RRP £19.99.

Granny Smith (Gudrun Ure) is a sweet old lady living a sedate life in the Scottish coastal town of Chisleton. One day, she is accidentally struck by a stray beam from Inventor Blacks magic ray machine and transformed into Supergran - the possessor of amazing powers, super-human strength, and even a magic flycycle! She puts these to great use in the fight against Chisletons local villain, The Scunner Campbell, and his unpleasant cohorts, Dustin and Muscles; with Supergrans miraculous abilities, however, defeating the baddies is not usually too much of a challenge!

Alongside regular cast members Iain Cuthbertson and Bill Shine, Supergran also features an array of guest stars including George Best, Lulu, Spike Milligan, Patrick Troughton, Charles Hawtrey and champion strongman Geoff Capes; the shows catchy theme song, performed by Billy Connolly, helped to ensure that it remained firmly in viewers memories long after it was first broadcast. This complete first series of Supergran was originally aired on ITV in 1985.

  • That magic ray was actually concentrated Iron Bru. It has been scientifically proven to have that effect of the Scottish.

  • You can clearly see there is some sort of cushion under the rug when the fat boy falls on the floor, what shite production values makes a carry on film look like Avatar

  • hehe and to think I used to love this when I was a kid.

  • Wasn't she replaced later on?

  • OMG what a pile of crap! The sad thing is I used to think this was good, & even worse I had a poster of Supergran on my wall :(

  • oddly i remember the special effects being much more impressive then...heh.

honestly though, i can barely remember this show...just that it had a little magic to it.. its like mighty mouse, superted, and the occasional episode of bugs bunny....for some reason the whole super hero angle always felt magical to me when i was a kid.

  • wow...I loved this as a kid back then. Strangely we have arrived in 21st century and so far grannies seem the same as back then and with no superpowers...lol. Funny to see how theyimagined 21st century

  • 00:35 i hate it when piles strike you out of the blue lol

  • "My little old Gran.. you must be..."

  • Is this the one where she rides the bicycle that flies?
