Because he said he would do it in 3 years or he wouldn't run again.

I guess he lied about that too.

    A) I'm well aware of what he inherited and I'm aware of how much worse it is now.

    B) The economic meltdown occurred due to the subprime mortgage crisis which the Democrats were the architects of. If not for their insistence at continuing to prop up Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae in the face of Republican regulators who were attempting to reign in the two troubled GSEs back in 2004, the economy would most likely not have collapsed.

Clint Eastwood was fantastic on the long version of this speech he gave.

    4) "Just signalling the business communtiy that rates will go down - is stimulative. They can more accurately plan for the future, knowing what the tax policy will be."

The same can be achieved with a higher tax rate, much as the economy boomed in the nineties despite (or partly because of) Bill Clinton's 1993 tax hike.

    3) But what exactly are you referring to? Is Simpson-Bowles going to require every American to pay federal income taxes? If so, then why do they keep the Earned Income Tax Credit, child tax credits, and to some degree at least, other exemptions that help the middle class and lower income folks? Broadening the base could also refer to the elimination of the capital gains rate.
