The junta was not elected by the Greek people. Take the example of President Kennedy: Certain criminal circles wanted him dead. Did his assassin represent the American people?

Makarios was democratically elected by a huge majority at a time when both Greece and Turkey were controlled by the army.

Categorically no! Makarios was against it. It was proposed to him by Sampson and Ioannides, when the latter was posted in Cyprus during the early 1960s. This is something you could look up.

I can see that what unites the Turks with a misguided Greek minority is their hatred for the then President of Cyprus. I doubt as to whether there was, at that time, a more qualified alternative to Makarios to undertake such a thankless post.
