Watch in HD ! Crank up the volume ! Make sure it is well and truly buffered before watching in HD..........it's worth it for the better picture quality.

View from the cab of my Kenworth going from Melbourne Victoria to Karratha WA with 46 tonnes of re-bar.
Gross train weight 77 tonnes on two 45' trailers.

My brother's son came with me on this 11,000 km round trip during the school holidays and was the camera man.

First clip is the roundabout at Hay NSW.
Second clip going through the S - bends at Gladstone SA on the new road train route.
Third clip the Heysen Tunnels in the Adelaide hills. We came through the hills in the daytime so we didn't get to see any of the smic - looking interstate trucks which come out at night.
Fourth clip the stacked up roadtrain Coolgardie WA.

Power of course is Caterpillar's 3408 18 liter V8.
Dyno'd at 550 HP at the wheels, equates to about 600 HP at the flywheel.
16 speed Spicer trans.

  • even c15s get to have twin turboes, why didn't you add twins to this baby of engine. or it does, sry 4 my ignorance

  • @iNf3rNuSdI4bLuS1 It goes fine with one turbo.

  • So when you got 3 mph how many tons did you hauled??

3 mph gives about 93liters per 100 kilometers in europ, european truck with trailer is 38 tons and average fuel comsumption is 30 liter per 100 km (+/- 9,5 mpg). That means that you should carry about 120 metric tones :D to make similar result (on level, smooth road not in the bush obviously).

    All best ;)

  • @AlexRyteuBart 3 mpg was the very worst I ever got, it isn't like that all the time. It isn't the weight of the load that makes it bad, it's the type of load and how much wind it drags. The load in the video I got very good fuel consumption because the steel was heavy but low in height.

  • @gm16v149Well, so could you tell me what is a average fuel comsuption on average load on average road?? Just want to compare it to what we got in UE ;)

    Thanks for reply :)

  • @AlexRyteuBart We will never get the same fuel consumtion like you get in Europe because our speed limit is 100 km/h for trucks and we generally sit on that because of the big distances, and the trucks run 2 diffs (bogie drive) instead of 1 diff. like in Europe. With 2 trailers at 80 tons gross I average about 4 mpg and with I trailer at 42 tons about 5.6 mpg. The new engines probably get half a mpg better.

  • As he said Europe is a completly different scenario. Cities are far nearer here than in US or AUS, and we need smaller machines to move confortable in our industrial cities.

Secondly, most European countries have longitud restrictions that ban multiple trailer configurations. Those restrictions are also the reason why 99% trucks seen in Europe are Cab Over Engine, shorter than normal ones.

Hope this explanation in my bad english help! XD

  • Sounds nice
