The Hokkiens in Penang celebrated Chinese New Year on the 8th night in full grandeur with over 15 tables of food offering to the Jade Emperor.
See this video taken yesterday at Chew Jetty Penang where the whole community laid over hundreds of trays of home cooked dishes, specially prepared fruits, wines, roasted pigling to offer the their Savior, Thnee Kong. Who saved them from Nian centuries ago. To date this practises are not forgotten in Penang. Read more here: http://www.my-islalnd-penang.com/Hokkien-New- Year.html

The distorted blurry sound is a mixture of Lion Dance, multiple Fireworks display in surrounding houses of Chew Jetty. You should be here next year to feel the ambiance of our Chinese New Year celebration. At midnight, the long crackers circling the main temple at the entrance of Chew Jetty, the tables and all they way to the outside on the Weld Quay Road had all our ears blasting with the thunderous sound. No need to clean your ears, the sound blast up all the blockage, mine feels that way. Only crazy photographers like us brave the blasting to take video for our audience.

But nothing beats you being here to witness this yearly event in Penang. It is indeed once in a lifetime experience, believe you me!
Do write to me if you celebrated your New Year differently. I love to share our tradition, I hope you do too. Peace to the World!
