You've done an amazing job.
I hope you continue to annotate the rest of the documentary, I've been trying for so long to get some information about the walled city but couldn't find anything in English.
Please keep going!

@MyDearFaith I disagree to that last part but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

@9:20 the street name refers more to "civilized"

the triads "delivers" too, but they use cash and violence instead of singing and pretend healing
-
religion always attack when people are desperate
-
also, don't know what the fuck that lady was talking about before, something about AA being enormously successful for a religiously motivated organization; AA's success rate is appallingly shitty.

collapsed from being in a "trance"... lol it wasn't severe heroin withdrawal or anything... nope, definitely that goddamn trance.

wow...so that woman wanna cure drug by telling them a foreign God who is one of the main reasons why they are in those conditions cure them using her hands? One gotta laugh at humanity sometimes..
Jackie Pullinger's relied upon God. Her power to cure wasn't psychological, but spiritual and supernatural. It's called the power of the Holy Spirit! In her book Chasing the Dragon, you will read testimonies of people who were delivered from drug addiction by the power of God.

@ditr16 Anecdotal occurrences of miracle healing are not reliable enough to make me believe in spirits. The natural world is enough for most of us. We have the strength to fight addiction and support each other in times of need. Yes, that is what Pullinger wanted. I can kinda respect that. She just made it much more complicated than it needs to be by introducing religion into the equation. Even if god existed, I wouldn't bother him with problems that I know people can solve without him.

Considering the kind of place and the conditions these people live in, Pullinger is doing an amazing thing. This has nothing to do with religion and you people are upset about my comment, talk about it with someone else.

@RinLockhart Nobody is upset. You don't have to get all defensive about it. If you think she is doing an amazing thing than that's just fine. And I really wish this had nothing to do with religion but I think that point is up for debate at least.

they do say though that sometimes your brain can psychologically heal you if you really do believe in what's being done. i know what pullinger is doing theoretically doesn't actually work, but psychologically to them it might.

@JAMamation Since addiction is always (in part!) psychological, what you are saying absolutely makes sense. It's called placebo effect (as you probably know) and it can be achieved in a lot of ways. Religion, to me, is the least preferable one because it comes with a whole lotta baggage.
