DJ Grazzhoppa and his companions return to the roots of turntablism with 'Back to Scratch', the new dynamic set of DJ Grazzhoppa's DJ Bigband . When DJ Grazzhoppa's DJ Bigband was established in 2002, the band consisted of 6 DJ's ,saxophonist Fabrizio Cassol (Aka Moon) and singer Monique Harcum. This ensemble quickly expanded to include 12 DJ's. They then took it to another level by fusing their turntable music with jazz trio Aka Moon (Fabrizio Cassol, Stephane Galland, Michel Hatzi) . A few years later singer Laila Amezian and a horn section (Laurent Blondiau, Nicolas Kummert, Frederik Heirman) joined the DJ Bigband for the project 'Around the World in 80 Beats.'

During the 'Djamsessions,' the DJ Bigband crossed needles with Toots Thielemans, Ronny Jordan, Joseph Bowie, Kris Defoort, Jozef Dumoulin, to name a few. These musical adventures brought them to the stage at huge festivals like Roskilde, Lowlands, Jazz Middelheim and in over 10 countries. Recently DJ Grazzhoppa's DJ Bigband released a recording of their memorable concert with jazz trio Aka Moon on cd/dvd (Cypres Records).

Over the years, DJ Grazzhoppa DJ's DJ Bigband mainly experimented with the possibilities of turntablism outside the 'traditional' hip-hop context, and proved the infinite uses of the turntable as a instrument.

With the new project 'Back to Scratch'(Project Chameleon), the DJ Grazzhoppa DJ's Bigband resolutely reaches back to the original hip-hop style by manipulating and scratching samples 'on the spot' into new compositions and heavy beats. The 6-piece band is complemented by synthesis, antithesis and reflection by the accompanying VJ. To accommodate the stages of smaller clubs, this new set by the DJ Grazzhoppa's DJ Bigband consists of 6 dj's and Monique Harcum on vocals.

A powerful show full of technical ingenuity, scratches, turntablism, funk, soul, jazz, science, humor and above all .... lots of hip hop!
