Director of the dance program at Bates College, associate professor Carol Dilley has been awarded an artist residency at the Lock-Up, a cultural center in Newcastle, Australia. Taking place in summer 2010, the residency will give Dilley the opportunity to work with local dancers as she further develops dance-and-video concepts that she explored in 2008 for the center. Here she talks about the Lock-Up itself, the site-specific nature of the project, and one academic difference between dance and other disciplines.
