I love these two scores... I just wish that Argento left out those rock scores during the murders. They would have been much more frightening... I also think it really dates the film (very 80's). But this is still one of his best (the photography in this was staggering).
Are you kidding? The hard rock music is what makes the film edgy and in your face. It was a great contrast with the boring 'opera' score throughout the rest of the film.
As far as being dated, the 1980's were a very important and special time for the horror genre and metal music for that matter, I think horror and metal go hand in hand.
You can't just have only rock or only classic, I like the mixture of the two, if you direct a horror with ONLY hard rock soundtrack it gets too repetitive, that is why Phenomena (main soundtrack) was a success, Simonetti mixed his rock with opera
