Mag Max © 1985 Nichibutsu.

A horizontally scrolling shoot-em-up in which a single player takes control of a hovership and must battle their way through an enemy-packed level; moving both above and below ground during the course of a level.

At various points the player will come across robot parts, either a torso or a pair of legs. Collecting these will eventually see the player's hovership become a towering robot, vastly increasing available firepower in the process.

  • This came out in 1985?! Looks pretty advanced for a game that old. Line scrolling AND portals? Underwater robot fish? Mind = blown.

  • @phonic9000 back then the game was quite fun. I dont think there was an end to it. I think it kept going. Or I think you beat it then it started over a little bit harder. I cant reallly recall. The music I always thought was not all that great.

  • The NES version of this was one of the first games I've ever owned. Along with Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Pac-Man, Excitebike, and Q*Bert.

  • I love this game

  • I remember playing the NES version and not really appreciating it as a kid.

Yet watching this now wants me to play it again.

  • @OmarDelfinity I disagree. The arcade version looks slightly trashier to me.
