Synopsis
Watershed Development Earthen Dams
Watershed Development Earthen Dams is one of the set of 5 how-to-do films on watershed structures.
Even as we worry about where the water for the morrow is to come from, we forget to look around us, at the bounty we are already blessed with. Have we done all we can, to harness what we have, to tackle an apparently insoluble problem?
The film describes very simple, low-cost methods to address the problem of water -methods that can easily be used by local people, utilising locally available natural resources. It demystifies the seemingly complex technical details of location, design and construction of earthen dam, the most important of watershed structures. It illustrates the creativity and meticulousness involved in fine-tuning the interventions to match the immense diversity of nature.
This approach constitutes a new paradigm of development that does not seek mastery over nature but grows organically from the soil, achieving environmental regeneration, livelihood security and people's empowerment, all in one stroke.
