With the summer Sun barely reaching the surface of the marsh, (a few minutes after 6:00 AM, 26 June, 2011) we came upon this female Black - Crowned Night Heron perched a few feet above a duckweed - choked cove. She began preening about the same time we began recording video. Note that she, just like the male of her species, sports a stylish snow white mating plume.
