The third part of this video tutorial continues to show how create a simple rig by connecting mesh parts to the armature created when you import a motion capture (bvh) file.

The armature is modified in edit mode to make the shoulders broader.

The tutorial also shows a 'work flow' for bringing in other motion capture data that works with the armature.

The tutorial finishes by showing some websites where you can get software that allows you to capture motion data using Microsoft's Xbox Kinect.

  • Hello...magnificent tutorial...can i create bvh files with kinect? or i need a special motion capture team....or where can i get example .bvh files for can do this tutorial?

  • @diegonimus Microsoft has a free 'Software Development Kit' (SDK) for the Kinnect but it only runs on Windows 7, I have a connect but not a copy of Windows 7. There are also other free software form other sources that should allow you to capture motion data. A Google search should points you to sites with free bvh files and other resources.

  • There tutorials are great, but I've one question. What if I have multiple bvh files to apply to the same character. Do I have to do exactly the same as what you did in there tutorials over and over and over again? Or is there a easier way to import more bvh files for the same rig and character?

  • @drx44 Sorry for the late reply to this, I was hoping to check out your query but realistically I am not going to get time this side of Christmas. Off the top of my head, the hardware and software that does the mocap defines the armature. When you import the bvh data an armature is created and you connect a skin to it to give you a rig. I think then all other bvh files from the same source can be brought in as actions without having to reconnect the skin to the armature.

  • Can you make a tutorial for Kinect Motion Capture?

  • @RobloxVidsRUS I hope to in the future, I have a Kinect but I do not have a Windows Version 7 which you need for the SDK

  • Another idea, just to throw it out there. If you already have a rig set up and don't want to start over, you could use the Copy Transforms constraint. :)

Thanks for the tutorials, I'm going to it a try later!
