A touch of black humour,a, little anyway. Although based on an old poem, this has updated to be a tale of a young lad who seems to be proclaiming the Good News, together with his banner, bearing the legend 'Uppards!'. Trouble is, it is cold, snowing, and he is found the next day, and of course where else has he gone but 'Uppards!'

  • just heard on alan titchmarch radio 2 show...made me laff at end!! uppards lol

  • Very interesting. I had never heard this particular recording of "Uppards" before. I do have the original 1941 record of "Up'ards" (as it is spelt on the label) with "Sam goes to it" on the other side. I didn't know that Stanley had recorded another version of "Uppards". I know it by heart, and I once "performed" it at a philatelists' dinner in Cape Town - but that's another story (I don't know what the Afrikaners made of the Northern dialect!)
