Unilever, the maker of Dove soap, agreed to buy the Sara Lee Corp.s personal-care and European detergent unit for $1.8 billion, gaining Sanex shower gel in its biggest purchase in nine years.
THEN Simmons, the nation's second-largest mattress maker, said today that it agreed to be acquired by a private equity group for $760 million as part of a Chapter 11 restructuring plan that will allow it to slash its debt from $1 billion to $450 million.
