One more video of improvised Faraday cages. There still is some confusion about what a Faraday cage is and the theory behind them. I am not trying to protect my cell phone, but because of the low strength of a cell phone signal, if can get a signal through the RF shielding of an improvised cage, then it is hopelessly inadequate to protect against EMP. If the cage can defeat the signal of my FRMS/GRMS radio (5-10 watts of power) then I am starting to feel more confident in the cage's ability to protect my equipment.

  • Good and cheep idea . One thing extra i would do is sand the top to remove the paint. So the lid and the top of the can will have a good electrical connection. EMP will tend to flow on the out side of the can. Kind of like electron flow on the out side of a wire.

  • @john762x39 Your right, I thought about that, but I lazed out of doing it right...

  • You are a fan of the shotgun spaghetti approach. Through enough pasta and see what sticks or Shot enough lead down range cause it has got to hit something. I LIKE IT!!!

Thanks so much for doing these videos. I am really learning a lot. You should go on the survival podcast and have Jack Interview you. There is a link on his website where guess can a apply you would be a great guest

  • @glockman1727ak47 Not really, my Faraday cage is 'none of the above', what I wanted to do in this series is show that common knowledge may not work by showing all the ways I have read people make Faraday protections.

  • Been working on this issue myself. Remember that an emp, or cme, can be of varying strength depending on how big solar storm, or where emp device is set off. Also with regard to cell phones... I can't post link here, but Google this... "Burning mans open source cell system"-----> Our options are greater than people think!

  • @GoatHollow I read that article myself, I also just took a commo class where they discussed email over radio, and a diy neighborhood intranet using routers and open source programming. I think it is really cool, but please don't give me another project, my list of projects has grown to third quarter 2013...

    LOL

  • @TNGun I wanna see what you use! I have read/heard so many different things. Thus so glad to see this test. like if it cell phone and radios. really good work you are doing.

I want to make one but don't want to waste my time thinking this thing or that thing will work when it wont even stop a cell phone call.

  • @shilltheshillXXX Because a true EMP can be (is) much stronger than the emissions from a RFID chip or cellphone. This is a negative test, just because it blocks cell phones does not mean it will block emp, but if it cannot block the cell then it will not block emp.

  • Totally Awesome Informational Video...

  • I'm just a recent viewer, what is the point? Tinfoil works for Cellphones and RFID.

Please, someone expain. Why so more extreme than foil?

  • Great video, Thanks for doing these videos. learning a lot!

You should apply to be a guest on the survival podcast! you would be great!
