Today, I tried to play Silent Hill on my GP2X, using zodttd's PSX4GP2X emulator. It runs okay, it goes about 2/3 speed if you turn the settings to the following: 266mhz, Clock 120%, Cycle 2.0.

One big problem about how it runs, however, is that all the characters and models have big boxes around them (see the video; kind of hard to explain).

Another problem is that it freezes at random; it didn't in this video, but it did several times prior to this video.

Other than that, it's okay. I wouldn't suggest playing it on GP2X yet, but it shows potential.

  • The PSP isn't much faster than the 2X, all things told (its standard speed is 222mhz, but can be overclocked to up to about 333mhz), but Sony released and developed the PSX emulator for the PSP themselves, so a bit of extra effort, knowledge and teamwork (zodttd is just one guy; the PSP emulator had a team behind it).

  • Are they making a new one that can handle a bigger load? Is there any in development that you've heard about?

  • The Pandora is coming out... sometime... and I'm wholly unexcited. The 2X is one of the fastest things out there already, the Pandora is akin to a mini-laptop. Not excited at all.

  • That square thing can be fixed, that problem appears even on the best PC Playstation emulator with Silent Hill, there's an option (I don't remember what it is) that's usually set to "on" the video plugins for the emulator that needs to be set to "off" for Silent Hill...something like that might be the problem with the GP2X version. Still I can't believe it runs at that speed with 266mhz of CPU! the Wiz and the Pandora will run it a full-speed then!

  • 266mhz is heaven compared to what the original PSX had! This game, with a perfect emulator (note the word "perfect") would run at the same speed as the PSX. That number is... (be prepared for a shock) a mere 33.8688mhz. That's right. Look it up if you don't believe me.

This is simply evidence that the emulator has a long way to go, and if zodttd keeps working at it, it should play everything flawlessly.

  • How much this console?

  • 250$ USD, last time I checked.

  • @air3100 its only a little bit bigger than a ds! :O well i see your comment was posted a year ago

  • compared to the upcoming pandora handheld this shit is downright ridiculous

  • MoonOvice is right: you can't simply compare an original hardware with a hardware that is emulating the original one.

You can't emulate PS3 or XBOX360 with a modern PC, although its capabilities are superior to the PS3's or 360's

  • lol The GP2X wiz will run this NP, im sure of it ^_^ cant wait 1 more week

  • gp2x or dingoo a320

  • I want it but i dont know much at all about the pandora. I don't know how to get games for it or anything so i basically dont know if it would be woth the large price. Im canadian so its worth more for me

  • just wait to get the pandora next year.

  • I understand... but it has a lot more to offer

    Texas Instrument's OMAP3430 processor

    128 mb ram

wi-fi( with some effort, web browsing might be in the future for the Pandora)

lithium ion battery ( no more AA batteries)

The Pandora will run faster than the GP2X Wiz or GP2X... and has great add-ons like wi-fi

The price is $330 in American Dollars
