The 9th Annual Venice IMAC

Location Venice RC, Venice Florida.
Date 14th and 15th of March 2009

Overall, there were 34 pilots flying in the Venice Imac contest. In no particular order they were: Ben Selock, Alan Cook, Jose Guzman, Steve Rogan, Dowd Kieslich, Joe Millette, Cock, Christopher Keene, Ryan Keene, Brian Luckett, John Schroder, Andy Kane, Alex Miller, Vernon Smith, Jose Alvarado, Forrest Waller, Gregory Baggerly, Parker Gilbert, George Brod, Jim Hess, Luiz Bosch, Mariano Barrios Jr, Phillip Berderka, Dave Ortmayer, Alvaro Yanquas, Matt Scott, Michael Jackson, Chris Kersey, Butch Hall, Kevin Wilson, Monty Huff, Sergio Schinoff, Ramon Dezubiria and Bill Kersey. These pilots flew a grand total of 520 judged sequences.

This contest was flown according to modified rules.

Jose Guzman won the Basic class. There were 7 pilots in Basic. The winning order was: (1) Jose Guzman, (2) Joe Millette, (3) Steve Rogan, (4) Christopher Keene, (5) Ryan Keene, (6) Dowd Kieslich and (7) Cock. They flew 8 known sequences (4 rounds). The scores ranged from a low of 4,294.7 to a high of 6,000 (a range of 1,705.3 points).

Parker Gilbert won the Sportsman class. There were 16 pilots in Sportsman. The winning order was: (1) Parker Gilbert, (2) Mariano Barrios Jr, (3) Forrest Waller, (4) Matt Scott, (5) Alex Miller, (6) Alvaro Yanquas, (7) Luiz Bosch, (8) George Brod, (9) Chris Kersey, (10) Gregory Baggerly, (11) Jim Hess, (12) Dave Ortmayer, (13) Phillip Berderka, (14) Michael Jackson, (15) Jose Alvarado and (16) Vernon Smith. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 3,695.9 to a high of 4,929.6 (a range of 1,233.7 points).

Kevin Wilson won the Intermediate class. There were 6 pilots in Intermediate. The winning order was: (1) Kevin Wilson, (2) Monty Huff, (3) Sergio Schinoff, (4) Butch Hall, (5) Ramon Dezubiria and (6) Bill Kersey. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 4,046.5 to a high of 5,000 (a range of 953.5 points).

Alan Cook won the Advanced class. There were 2 pilots in Advanced. The winning order was: (1) Alan Cook and (2) Ben Selock. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 4,940.6 to a high of 5,000 (a range of 59.4 points).

Brian Luckett won the Unlimited class. There were 3 pilots in Unlimited. The winning order was: (1) Brian Luckett, (2) Andy Kane and (3) John Schroder. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 4,249.7 to a high of 5,000 (a range of 750.3 points).

In addition to the standard classes, there was 1 special class: Seniors.

George Brod won the Seniors class. There were 5 pilots in Seniors. The winning order was: (1) George Brod, (2) Gregory Baggerly, (3) Dave Ortmayer, (4) John Schroder and (5) Butch Hall. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 0.681 to a high of 0.768 (a range of 0.087 points).

Parker Gilbert won the Freestyle class. There were 5 pilots in Freestyle. The winning order was: (1) Parker Gilbert, (2) Monty Huff, (3) Ben Selock, (4) Alex Miller and (5) Forrest Waller. They flew 1 freestyle round. The scores ranged from a low of 595.4 to a high of 1,000 (a range of 404.6 points).

The tightest competition was for 2nd place in the Sportsman class, with only 2.3 points difference between Mariano Barrios Jr and Forrest Waller.
