Second Harvest's Annual Food Drive Awards Dinner is held in March. This special event is filled with celebration, food and music, recognizes the efforts of participating food drive organizations, schools and companies. All honorary participants are presented with special awards, plaques, and certificates.
This event also includes the presentation of our Hunger Fighters of the Year and an introduction of the following year's Holiday Food Drive Co-Chairs.
Marisela Baron: Volunteer and Calabasas School staffer Marisela Baron helped to found the Food For Children program in 1997. She has worked with the Pajaro Valley Pantry Network, Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, and other charitable organizations. She received 14 nominations for her 17 years of dedicated service to Watsonville-area residents.
Rene Schlaepfer: Senior Pastor Rene Schlaepfer of Twin Lakes Church has led his 3,000+ member church to become one of Second Harvest's largest donors during their Holiday Food Drives, which have raised well over 1 million meals during the past 5 years. He believes in emphasizing the fun factor in bringing his community together.
