@NeoFryBoy your comment isn't helping anyone either. she is assuming the hat is for yourself. so...if your making it for someone else just ask them to measure their head eg. 22 inches and make the hat brim around 21 inches so that it can sit tighter on your head with out if coming off, quite simple really when you think about it.

A relative measurement system based on the size of your knots? I get that it's an art, but that doesn't mean science cant be applied.

thanx for posting these vids, u inspired me to start crocheting. ? when do u actually begin decreasing while doing the oversized beanie, immediately after u have increased, or at the very end after you have made the appropraite length? PLEASE HELP! :-)
