One of the most incredible bores I've come across, natural throughout. The bell end is voluminous and clear and slowly tapers to a small comfortable mouthpiece. Most impressive is the little bit of termite debris left on the entire surface of the interior. This seems to be common in yirdaki made from bardawili, a species of bloodwood eucalyptus that is known by Yolngu to be have high resonance quality.

This yirdaki is very fast and powerful owing to the incredible bore configuration. There is a good mix of traditional murkiness and darkness but also crispness and clarity... the best of both worlds.

Tongued 'dhith' articulations, a primary foundational Yolngu technique, result in easy well-defined accents with a beautiful ring and lightness to them.

An F fundamental and G# overtone note are perfectly in harmony.

Larry Winiwini shows off his style on this superb yirdaki. He remarks on his brother-in-law's Mirrwatnga's ability as a 'bamboo man' as testament to the quality of this stick... that it takes a skilled yirdaki player to craft a superb instrument.

The artwork and instrument combination is unique and the only one of its kind that we know of. Painted by Winiwini's mother's sister, Barrupu Yunupingu, the ochre artwork is rustic with a charm all of its own, much like instruments of yesteryears.

Here we go again!!! This and more yirdaki and mago will be available in the iDIDJ Store today and in the coming days... we've had our little rest after a hectic few weeks and are ready to start all over again! Some very tasty treats coming up. And look out for other great offers and special discounts too here on YouTube and in the iDIDJ Store:
