The only and ever reason you would trade a rook for a knight, is only if it gave you a large positional advantage. And it happens...quite often actually, its called a sacrifice.

If I'm being attacked, I would definitely consider trading my rook for their beautiful knight.

@mrcardnal I'm not saying knights aren't valuable or aren't dangerous. I'm just saying I wouldn't value them over a rook. Especially as the board opens up. In general, and depending on the position, I'd consider losing a knight for a rook a significant blow to the opponent. I can't remember too many times I've lost a rook that way and had a happy ending.

@The121Hammer Depends on what you like, I try to kill the knights as quick as possible becasue I have end up getting my ass handed to me by them.
