From what I understand, that R&D-to-operational-status barrier was eliminated. Bush Jr. authorized use of prototype weapon systems (formerly required to be tested extensively). Iraq has been used as a test bed. My guess is that Afghanistan is the same. It happens much faster now that testing is done on live humans.

@boinkboink1968 The THEL uses glass structures to create this beam and is totally different to chemical laser systems. It's not quite as high powered as the chem ones, but safer and more portable.

assuming this isn't bullshit the armed forces could mount on large airplanes and be able to effectively take out High altitude cruise misses and other airplanes but if it wasn't bull shit they probably would of done that bye now
