If you like the LED effect, you can buy a dummy LED pickup I make ....more details here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf4Qk5MP9xs )

I make sustainer coils in my spare time...this was one for my own Ibanez & the cool thing about it (apart from the LEDs)is that with my design, you get to keep the guitar's original pickups (as opposed to Fernandes & Sustainiac, who all force you to swap out your original neck pickup for theirs - not acceptable in my books!)

Note: There is no circuit/schematic to share here & this self designed circuit *AND& Driver combo is unlike anything 'DIY' you may hear about on the net - in fact I wish to distance myself from any perceived similarities by those who SHOUT a lot on forums (& 'claim' everything as theirs!), specifically...

My driver coil does *not* use 0.2mm wire (fwiw: most enamelled wire CAN be made to work within reason...the one in this video uses thicker wire at something like 0.25mm from recollection)
my driver coil is not 8 ohms (it doesn't have to be...but it does need to match your circuit's paramaters))
my circuit design does not use an LM386 (that's an awful IC!)
The driver coil does not *have* to not potted - laziness on my part established this oft quoted misnomer! Granted, you may squeeze a little more performance out of your driver with it potted, but potting is not gonna make a poor driver sustain well.
This implementation has zero pops or clicks at switch on/off (the DIY offerings on the net will shock you with the pops & bangs at switch on/off!)
I use an AGC....but most (not all) DIY sustainer offerings omit that
I make no use of JFETs (eg like a fetzer ruby)
the driver in the video is about 4mm tall (*not* 3mm)....actually from my own testing I established that driver height makes very little perceivable difference to the sustainer performance, the reason I use one 4mm high, is becuase my guitar has about 5mm of 'string to body' clearance, and a 4mm tall driver fits in that space nicely!

There's nothing magical about the low height/profile of the driver ....I've made driver coils 12mm tall ...they all work just as well. (it's the circuit you mate your own design of driver with that counts)

  • I couldn't find you on eBay. I'm interested in a sustainer. How do I contact you?

  • @russpang I'm not selling these at the moment, but hope to around March, 2012

  • Quistion: I am wanting to put led under neith my pickups in a flat black les Paul made by LTD. Would this circuit be able to power 8 leds? Would they be able to go through a rotary switch with multi colored leds or Tri LEDS? I've been hunting for this circuit for months. Also need to know the price.

Like the video. Sounds Nice. Looks Nice. Excellent!

Have a look at some of the Guitar LED stuff I'm starting to offer for sale on Ebay ...search for "guitar pickup leds" (or else goto Ebay, click button marked 'advanced' next to the normal Ebay search box, then 'items by seller' (left of the screen) ...my ebay seller's user ID is axecentric

  • @peskywinnets Thanks for the quick reply! And ok, ill check back then. If any of the projects your doing now are guitar related please post vids! lol

  • @MichaelLozano12

At the moment I'm firmly committed to other projects....but will be revisiting sustainers (with & without LEDs) in August :-)

  • @peskywinnets Id love to have a sustainer. Not really into the LED deal for my guitars but it looks awesome! Just not my style haha. Would you be able to sell just the sustainer? OR make a vid on how to make one, even if its not perfect. ive got a guitar with CRAPPY pickups and id like to turn one into a sustainer. Thanks allot =]

  • How much routing does it require?

  • you know, if the saddles of a bridge were magnetized, you wouldn't have to got through all of this trouble to make a separate piece for the guitar that does the same thing the guitar is already capable of.

  • Daddy, our breakfast, please !
