  • Arcadia stands out as a high school band not because they are simply huge, but because they are VERY good at being huge.

  • That's because Arcadia is marching its full band. I think Sozialismus is saying that Arcadia has been winning sweepstakes awards since the 1960s and there is virtually no other band in socal that can claim that title. Hence, the domination.

  • Arcadia is the best band on the street in California possible the West Coast hands down...Even when they march a competitive block. Click almost any of the videos and see for yourself. I remember my time their, every year before and after me the sound at the street level is so full, crisp, and precise. The highs, mids, and lows..MMM music to my ears! The music in this vid sounds fantastic..Glad to see that Arcadia still carries on the tradition of owning the street!!

  • true dat

  • Well, your group had many (jealous) admirers, including me. The Anaheim schools also seemed to be dynastic at the time, but it looks like Magnolia (early 80s) was the last of them.

  • I was a member of the Arcadia Marching Band from 1965 to 1968. We were the second band to retire the Mayor's Trophy. We had not won Sweepstakes at LB prior to 1965. It was a wonderful time in my life and I remember our director, Ron Hoar, with great fondness.

  • Interesting that Arcadia has dominated the competition for decades. They did not win the Mayor's trophy at Long Beach AWBR in 1968 but that was because they were not allowed to compete. They had won for so many years in a row, it was decided to let someone else have a chance - and that year it went to Loara.

  • i think a marching concert band gets more music points than just a marching band because of the better intonation and balance.

  • WOW

  • i wouldnt say way better...just different. RB (or at least the vid I saw) had more of a trombone/tenor sound where as arcadia had more of a thundering low brass sound...it comes down to taste and i think thats how you would describe Arcadia vs RB. IMO RB sounds like a marching concert band and Arcadia sounds like a marching band. its all up to what you like...
