Hard to imagine that, a generation later, Lon Kruger will come to Manhattan as an opposing coach - for Oklahoma.
As a Jayhawk fan, I look at Ahearn Fieldhouse and think, "That was an amazing basketball arena in its own right." I'm too young to remember Ahearn Fieldhouse, though.
K-State had a much better looking Wildcat logo in 1988 - the mean looking one on the court and the players' shorts - than the Powercat in use today. Even though I'm a Jayhawk fan, I don't really hate K-State.

It's amazing how many truly horrible seats there were in Ahearn.

I was at that game :) i sat in the last row in one of the corners of the field house. So sad to leave the Ahern.

For me, the switch from Willie the Wildcat to the Powercat, and the switch from Ahearn to Bramlage, signified KSU's shift from a football doormat and basketball power, to that of a football power and mediocre basketball school.
At least now that Ahearn magic has finally made its way to Bramlage, thanks to Frank Martin.

What a dump!!!
Did you realize that K-State won more Big 7/8 championships than any other conference school won during the time span they played in Ahearn?

1988 was just a great year for the Big 8. Richmond, Chievous, King, Manning, Grayer were just outstanding players. And for three teams to make the Elite Eight and for Kansas to win the National Championship against Oklahoma. It was just a phenomenal year for the conference.
