Israeli killed as rocket salvos hit the South

An Israeli man was killed and four injured in the latest escalation in violence as scores of Grad and Qassam rockets and mortar shells were fired at southern Israel..

Ami Moshe, 56, father of four was killed as he ran from his car for cover in Ashkelon as the siren warned of an incoming rocket attack and was hit by flying shrapnel. He was taken to hospital where he died shortly afyer.

The rocket fired began Saturday and continued overnight and Sunday morning after the Israel Air Force targeted an Islamic Jihad terror cell killing six members who were responsible for firing a Grad rocket at Gan Yavne earlier in the week.

In other air strikes conducted by the air force overnight an additional four Islamic Jihad terrorists were killed.

Some 200,000 pupils remained at home after the Home Front Command ordered to close schools, kindergartens and colleges located in a 7 kilometer to 40 kilometer radius from Gaza.

Egyptian officials announced a Cairo mediated a truce between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza, went into effect at 6 a.m. on Sunday. Despite the report over 11 rockets were fired at southern Israel early Sunday morning.
