3 DOG DAY
Early Thursday morning our neighbor called to ask my wife and I to come to her rescue. Seems she was jogging around Macintosh Lake (in NW Longmont, CO) with her dog (40 lbs) when she met a woman on the path going the other way, with three huge dogs (two St Bernards and a large pit-bull looking mix). In the resulting melee, our friend was knocked down, injured, and her dog bitten. Neither our injured neighbor or her bitten dog was able to walk home.
Later, while the police were taking their report, a couple with a tiny dog passed by and the three aggressive dogs again went into a frenzy. I captured that incident, and another similar within seconds, on my cell phone video. The would-be "master" of these three animals, even though their leashes were on, was no more in control of them than I would have been with three wild horses. Remember, our neighbors dog was bitten. What if it had been her child - or yours?
The point is this: There should be an ordinance prohibiting anyone walking a dog, or dogs, that outweigh them. In this case the total weight of the three dogs had to be at least 75-100 pounds greater than that of the 3-dog woman herself. Maybe a simple "one person/one dog" ordinance needs to be passed and enforced on our public trails and walking paths.
