Jungle Drums by Xavier Cugat on Mercury Living Presence High Fidelity album played on an RCA 1957 Orthophonic Hi-Fi console model SHF-5. This RCA was bought at the same house where it was delivered brand new 50 years ago. It came with its original instructions, schematic, warranty card, and delivery ticket. It did play but after about an hour the sound deteriorated, so I replaced all the caps in the amp. It still has its original Sonotone 2T mono hi-fi cartridge, but has a stereo compatible stylus. It has its original factory finish that is in like new condition, with almost no blemishes or scratches. The lady that bought it new 50 years ago was a school teacher and she took very good care of everything she owned. An internet radio suggestion for listening to the great American classics from the 1920's to the 1980's in a 1950's style of broadcasting http://www.krli.net/

  • Beautiful cabinet. Did you refinish it or be lucky and find it in that condition? Great clear sound too. I have a 1957 Motorola hi fi that works pretty well but needs to be refinished.

  • Hi wb5oxq No I didn't need to refinish it. It was in like new condition when I bought it at the estate sale. It was purchased by a school teacher in 1958, and was delivered to the same house 51 years ago where I bought it. It had all of the original sales receipts, directions and delivery instructions still inside. It also had all of the RCA booklets on how to update to stereo. I did replace the caps in the amp and had to work on the changer from just sitting for so many years.

  • I accidently hit the remove button instead of the reply on your comment when trying to reply about the camera. Actually everthing I post has much better sound than the video sounds It is a camera not a cam corder its model DSC H2. It really does not have good music sound recording, It gives the mid-range a harsh tinny sound in comparison to the original source. It's ok on voice, but not so good on music I would recommend a cam corder I have been planning on getting a different camera.

  • I liked this tune so much I had to go to Amazon and download it!

  • That must've been one HIP schoolteacher...talk about a person seeing quality, hearing it, and being willing to pay for it. A rare thing these days. Bless them.

  • Genial...

  • Beautiful setup... great song... I have Jungle Drums by Marty Gold and his Orchestra, I'll have to get it recorded and on here so you can hear it! Your RCA is beautiful... monaural is great! I wouldn't change it at all, it's doing what it's supposed to do and sounds awesome!

  • Esta canción también es muy parecida a la Juan García Esquivel, muy buenas orquestas de tiempos muy buenos para la música. Por favor, sigan difundiendola.

  • All comes from MERCURY recordings !!

They had the best quality around !! especially those of Xavier Cugat's masterpieces!!! and these great Mercury recordings are impossible to find today unfortunately...

  • Beautiful RCA Victor Cabinet model with that red light in front. Sounds much better that what you hear on the equipment today!

  • A great Orchestra with Mr. Cugat!!! Arella Dror, Israel
