Grumpy Jii-san's been watching cartoons for way too long. Today, he discusses wine, romance and fine dining.

This was recorded on the shore of Alamo Lake (an Arizona state park) along the Big Sandy river.

  • it's nice to see you reviewing a more recent anime gjisan. do you write out a script or do several takes or these reviews? you're very eloquent

  • Thanks.

I've tried several techniques to keep the narration moving briskly, since my early vids were slow & rambling. I tried writing in advance, but I usually carry note cards (names & outline points), and these days often put the clips I'll use on my iPod so I can review it before speaking.

I do multiple recordings of each "segment" & sort out the "best" back home. (Sometime I throw parts out on the spot, either when I mess up or a noisy plane flies over.)

  • you should review .Hack//sign.

  • I've seen it a few years ago, have the DVDs, and it's on my list of things to get to (I'd want to re-watch it before daring to discuss it, and it's a long series, so don't expect it "soon".)

  • I was meaning to watch this, since I have a thing for slice-of-life shows.

  • I think you're right.

One could say Crunchy used the unlicensed vids as a lever (or blackmail) to get some Japanese companies to license them shows ("If you give me legit content, I won't need user uploads!"). When Gonzo licensed Druaga & Blassreiter for streaming, I watched on BOSTTV instead of Crunchy, for the same concern I think Eponuts expressed.

But today, Crunchy seems legit, and along with Funi, the only (legit) game in town, and (I think/hope) it benefits the studios (a bit.)

  • And without those checkered origins they would be no where near as popular I would guess.

  • I appreciate the concern. Despite Crunchyroll's checkered origins, last year (2009!) the site seems to carry only licensed videos. Rispara was an authorized "web simulcast", at least according to ANN, Japanator, and other anime websites.

    Happy new year!

  • charging for japanese television rips shouldnt be legal. that's just my opinion anyway don't take me seriously

  • May I ask why?

  • you shouldnt support crunchyroll i am disappoint
