Why do all these conservative try so hard to claim the movement was theirs. Conservatives had little close to nothing to do with civil rights. It's a lame right wing attempt to win over black voters. In case u haven't noticed blacks who fought for civil rights are alive today.

What a fucked up state, give it back to Mexico.
-
@oberlepa -GOSPEL!!!
-
Now the Republicans want to take credit for the Civil Rights Movement? Ha, Ha, Ha!
-
Oh yes, I remember that great republican president, Lyndon B. Johnson, who courageously picked up the civil rights fight from his assassinated republican predecessor, JFK, and somehow got it passed despite the great liberal democrat opposition. What color is the sky in this guy's world?
-
the republicans did shit it was democrats that introduced civil right legislation guided it through Congress and was later signed by LBJ. And the republicans of that day especially the northern republicans were more liberal.
-
WTF is political affiliation have to do with educating our children? That is just destined for failure.
-
The period to which he is referring was when the Lincoln Republicans became LBJ Democrats. It was civil rights that switched the parties over and fear of integration. So yes, prior to the enactment of civil rights, Democrats were the racist asses tearing up the fabric of the country. Since then it can safely be said that the republicans, who were the democrats when they were bad, are the ones now once again destroying this fine nation.

This is funny.
Minorities hate Republicans and that's a fact. There's a reson minorities hate Republicans....
-
Well here he's clearly wrong. Doesn't he "remember" that the Republicans used to be on the left and Democrats on the right? So it wasn't "conservatives" who were the majority of yes votes; it was liberals or progressives, whatever you will call them.
Fredrick Douglas was a liberal republican, Abraham Lincoln was a liberal republican, Martin Luther King was a liberal republican. The Republicans used to be the liberals. If this was 1950 I would be a Republican to. After Democrats became too associated with civil rights in many white eyes they defected from the Democratic Party to the Republican party. The problem with Republicans today is that the more radical faction of this group now has the loudest megaphone.
