@eyeswideopen1993 Modern medicine & technology have made us a weaker species than those who withstood epidemics of diptheria, measles, flu, yellow fever, etc. What we call an epidemic now ain't shit compared to what our forebears withstood. This is a fitting tribute not only to the Davis family, but to the unnamed masses whose families mourned them, too, during those times.
this i know im no idiot i was speaking from the standpoint of woman who i know have done this like my great great great grandmother she had i think 17 children and only 4 survived past 28 she just kept trying because she wanted a big family as i said i would have stopped after the third one passed
Ya'll niggahs all shutup about dese Davises. Dey was good peoples. Puuuuurrrrty chillun. Most chillun back den waz ugly on camera. When Mrs. Davis couldn't or wouldn't have no mo chillun, she grabbed up a homeless black chile and adopted him knowing fully well how bad life would be for him, so don't sey dey didn't unnastand slavery was cruel to innocents. So, she didn't claim the chile as a slave. She dopted him as her son, settin an example fo all da south to luv all niggahs like family.
@strangeisfun you have to understand that life was incredibly different in 18th century america. birth control wasn't as readily available as it is now. in fact, in the early 1900s birth control was illegal. I can assure you Varina's pregnancies were most likely unplanned. I'm sure they also didn't expect their family to suffer so much tragedy.
