Sones de Mexico Ensemble's Spanish version earnbed two GRAMMY nominations. It speaks of the immigration debate. Back in the 30's it was USA state against state. Today it is country against country. Woody Guthrie wrote this in 1940. It originally had a message of inclusiveness. It was inspired by the plight of “Okies,” displaced Great Plains farmers unwelcomed in California when they sought work during the 1930's Dust Bowl Depression Era. It was dramatized in the book and movie, The Grapes of Wrath. A Spanish version “Esta Tierra es Tuya” was written by Sones de Mexico Ensemble and the message remains relevant in the debate over immigration. Search Somes de Mexico Ensemble videos above.
