This is a string quartet I wrote for my wife as she was moving through her pregnancy with our first child. As luck would turn out, this performance was the very night of our child's birth and I was unable to attend. This video made it possible for me to enjoy it.
Previous Notes:
A String Quartet piece that I wrote during our first pregnancy. It is nine short movements, one for each month of the pregnancy.
The coolest thing happened for this premiere performance...it was played on the very night that our first child, Sarah, was born, on Dec 5, 1996. It was a Thursday night and only a couple of hours after the actual birth, the Young Composers' Symposium at the University of Hawaii was underway and the piece was performed.
The performers were my good friends Stefanie Anderson (Cello), David Hamano (viola), Kyle Morikone (violin) and Evan Hajime (violin). They did a great job and even got a bit of extra applause at the end.
I am very happy with the result and the way it worked out. The video conversion here from VHS to digital video is not so great, so bear with me.
Liner notes to follow once I find the score again. :p
Enjoy,
