@nadaboom Ustadji is definately one of the great masters of his generations. Ustad means maestro in Urdu, there is no official declaration of the title, a great master is indeed an Ustad, but this goes with popular consent and not through an official declaration... in fact many people misuse this title...

brilliant master parvez khan

@playsitar that is very ignorant of you to say it is humanly impossible for someone you don't even know to play like the ustad parvez. anyone who loves music enough and has enough devotion can reach as high as anyone else. we are all human after all. I am assuming you yourself believe you can never play like parvez, and are expanding that onto the rest of us. Strive and dont settle and you will reach the stars.

kya baat hai. pilu - one of my favs. it has such a pull
thank you

Shahidji plays a wonderfully expressive Pilu - by turns hopeful, and heartbreaking - always as eloquent, or beautiful, as any poetry/ I can never make up my mind whether I like him better of Shujaat Khansahib. Fortunately I don't have to - I can have each as my favorite when I am listening to him. It is such a blessing that we have such musicians to carry the legacy of Ustad Vilayat Khansabib!

I think i got this video from esnip...i thought to share it on youtube as this particular rag is my favorite, no doubt Shahid ji being my favorite, and of all the sitar videos this is probably one of the best performance.

Nadaboom , you honestly think you can, one day, play like him? No disrespect to you, but it is humanly impossible. It is not just practice, you have gotta have talent. God has given this man a talent like no others before him and most likely no others after him. Just like the rest of us, listen, enjoy and be proud that you have lived to see such talent.

It is true, practice (8-14 hours a day) will definitely lead you to great heights, but there is so much happening before and after that creates a legend; having LIFE devoted to Guru and his teachings, the influence and above all the Self, which is always unique.

Thank you so much for posting this!! I've been trying to find Shahid Parvez's music for a long time now, and the only thing I've really managed to do is watch youtube videos. I started learning the sitar a few months ago and he just blows me away every time. It's interesting to hear him when he's quite a bit younger, he's definately grown in a master. Please post more!
