adam curtis (of "The Power of Nightmares" fame) describes the transition of TV news from it's advent, to an agent for direct intervention, to what it is today: simplistic illustrations of acts of human cruelty devoid of context.

introduced by charlie brooker, newswipe, episode 3.

  • The final punchline is just knockout brilliant.

'Like living in the mind of a depressed hippie'

  • "... and some might say, controversial viewpoint it's therefore hes viewpoint, it's hes viewpoint, it's hes viewpoint, it's hes viewpoint, it's a mans viewpoint. IT'S NOT A BIG BUNCH FACTS CARVED IN TO A CONCRETE BLOCK BY A FUCKING FACT COMPUTER"

oh dear god how I laughed =P

  • @TheEnkiTruth Personally, I'm hoping 'zombie virus' (and I get the impression our friend Mr. Brooker is too...)

  • excellent conclusion cudnt agree more, the way the news broadcasts today "BBC, FOX, SKY NEWS, broadcasted together each story is 97% vague! in which no practical explanation for conflict is given anymore, and everything now falls under the catagory of terrorism, all for dramatic effect ofcourse ):-|

  • Horribly horribly true. Have just been to Africa's biggest slum. As a writer I am still grasping for ways to describe what I saw.

But the globalisation of charities, the untouchable nature of corporations and arms-dealers, the inanities and atrocities of tourism, the deep games played by power-brokers - new & old, these phenomena are all linked.

The only positives I cd see were the extraordinary dignity of the people I had a chance to talk with, and the fact that everyone had a mobile phone.

  • I really wish the US media was anything like Britain's.

  • "It's like living in the mind of a depressed hippy". LMAO!!!

  • Oh, how the world needs more people like Adam Curtis... God bless him.

  • @TheEnkiTruth omg my spelling was so bad there lol
