Tools used: hammer, Chisels(small, Med, LG), Stainable wood filler

There's a lot of books on the Internet for the plans, so just search and you'll find something. I sure did. There's also free PDF's out there too, like Sifu Ian Protheroe has a book out there, and that's what I used.

For the splited wood, I used wood filler that is stainable, then I sanded it again before I stained the wood!

  • some are made with the wood cut in 2 half sided posts... then ya can chizzle the holes out slowly and put the 2 halves back together so its almost like cutting the holes from the inside out.. its hard to explain in words

  • @kiwirap I know exactly what you mean, and that is a nice idea. But, I didn't have any big C clamps to hold the two pieces together. Nevertheless, that would have been much easier to chisel the holes.

  • Very good - Where did you get the log? I will get back with you later about the cracking

  • @eversostrong...I went to a lumber yard near my house and they gave me the log for free. Lumber yard usually have piles of logs that they can't use, because the logs are defected or something.
