This Ray Jeff Model 6150 dates from the 1970's. It is an automatic direction finder, as the direction finding antenna is rotated by an internal motor. It stops when the signal to a broadcasting antenna is weakest, or as they say, at the "null". Since it is pointing at the location of the broadcasting antenna, the bearing to that antenna can now be read off the radio, and marked on a map or chart.
