Information take from S.Kent Solar http://www.skentsolar.co.uk

Feed-in Tariffs or FITs became available in Great Britain on 1st April 2010 as part of the Government's commitment towards improving energy security reducing the countries overall carbon footprint. (They currently aren't available in Northern Ireland or Scotland - although this is under review.)

Under this scheme energy suppliers have to make regular payments, usually quarterly, to householders, businesses and communities who generate their own electricity from renewable sources.

This initiative runs for 25 years from installation but in order to qualify a system has to be installed by a company such as S Kent Solar who have the necessary qualifications and experience which include MCS Approval, are members of the Real Assurance Scheme and operate quality management systems and processes that are regularly audited. Solar installations are for the professionals, not the fly by nights. The regulations even cover the claims regarding performance and returns on your investment helping to protect you from the unscrupulous operators.

By choosing S Kent Solar, your system will qualify for the full FIT payments as we are fully qualified, MCS certificated product and installers. The Scheme has a number of elements, each of which deliver to you a return on your investment and a reduction in your bills, The FIT Scheme guarantees payment for 25 years. The key elements of FIT are The Generation tariff. - this is a set rate paid by the energy supplier for each unit (or kWh) of electricity you generate. Whilst the generation tariff rate changes each year, you remain at the one you started, for 25 years, with additional benefit of it being index linked to the higher RPI. As well as the Generation tariff, you will receive a further 3p per kWh from your energy supplier for each unit you don't use and export back to the electricity grid, under the Export tariff.

You can make savings on you energy bill --because by generating electricity from your system you can power your appliances or equipment, therefore it means you don't have to buy as much electricity from your energy supplier. The amount you save will vary depending how much of the electricity you use on site.

Tariff levels do vary depending on the scale of the installation which is governed by the type of incoming electricity supply, single or three phase. All these aspects are managed by S Kent Solar who will cover each and every aspect as part of their survey and proposal to you. Remember the sooner you choose your system the sooner you start to save money and receive the FIT payments.

Every year you delay means a loss of 8/5% on the FIT rate which in cash terms could be as much as £5000 per year.
