From SlateRoofWarehouse.com: Roofing slates should be marked and cut on the back side in order to retain the beveled edge on the exposed side. This may seem trivial to some, but if the homeowner complains about the aesthetics of the roof because the roofer cut the slates on the wrong side, huge problems can result. Better to do it right the first time.

Nah hes right im a roofer when u flip the slate over it makes the cut like a real slate!

ha ha ....he wasnt cutting them on the wrong side he was usind up his cut offs from another area on the roof.count ur euros!!!!!
