His sound tech here wasn't great. And even though I don't play Violin or Viola I can tell that that is definitely a Viola.

@mshhsm Well, the viola has a C string, while the violin has an E string. Viola sound is richer though.

anyone who plays violin or viola can see the difference. viola is bigger, it looks different when you hold it. and here we definitely see viola.

because Patrick doesn't play the violin, he plays the viola, most likely. They are different instruments and that is what he plays- it's not so much seeing in the video as just already knowing what his instrument is.

how can you tell the difference between a violin and a viola if you dont have them side by side? is there something that immediately confirms that its a viola?
