This is MY community, MY son's school, and MY son's classmate, and though you may not personally know Gabrielle, most of you personally know ME. You know you can reach me anytime, by emailing me here, and many of you have my personal email address, and even my phone number! I am real, and so is Gabrielle LaVerde, and so are the stories that my son shares with me every single day about the donations that his classmates raised for one little girl.
I have been publishing youtube videos for almost one year now. Prior to that, I was publishing animal welfare videos on my personal website, long before Youtube ever existed.
I believe that my efforts have helped many achieve awareness and results. However, the main reason why I want to abolish the puppy mill trade, irresponsible breeding of dogs and cats, and to put an end to animal over-population is because of the trillions of dollars that the general public donates to save the American pet. In actuality, if I could help stop the plight of the American dog and cat, I believe genuinely caring people would redirect their focus to other causes that go unnoticed. Other causes go unnoticed (like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Cancer, Autism, Depression, etc.) because our dog and cat situation is so grim.
I look at the number of years that national and international animal welfare groups have been in existance, working as non-profits, who employ thousands, and yet, our situation has only become worse. Every year, Millions of unwanted dogs and cats are euthanized. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE animals, especially dogs, but somehow we have lost our ability to care and nurture people.
Last week, my son, Ryan, asked me to get involved and help his classmate Gabrielle LaVerde. I learned more and more about this little girl's situation.
Not only do I receive mountains of emails from those wanting to help, I also discuss the situation with Gabrielle's mother, Danielle, almost on a daily basis.
However, yesterday, I visited my son's school. While my focus is creating a national presence through venues like Youtube, I had no idea what was going on behind the scenes. Gabrielle's Elementary School Classmates are lining up outside of the school's office with their donations every day. Children carrying jars and piggy banks, asking to donate. It's creating quite an emotional impact on the employees that work there. After all of the change is counted, daily contributions are announced over the loud speakers.
These kids have done, and continue to do everything they can possibly think of, to help Save Gabrielle LaVerde from Niemann-Pick Type C, which is a fatal disease. We all know that there is a chance, a sliver of hope, that with experimental treatments, Gabrielle might live.
Now, I find myself consumed with the thought that I have not done enough, even though my involvement has only been less than 1 short week.
This is NOT High School, The Musical - this is Elementary School, the little Heroes.

Above and beyond the $3,125 these kids collected 3 weeks ago, last week, they held a garage sale at the school. With parent support they raised another $4,800 dollars. Shows you what a group of elementary school kids can do!
