KOCE's Maria Hall-Brown and local historian Chris Epting look at forgotten Orange County landmarks, in this episode The legendary Rendezvous Ballroom in Balboa, CA.
..The Rendezvous stood where the condominiums are Now standing. That Was the parking lot needed for the huge crowds that would come to see all those big bands
@Dougspair...Yikes we probably were there often on the same nights. I was there as often as possible...also at the Golden Bear, Retail Clerks in Buena Park, Harmony Park in Anaheim and the Pavalon in Huntington Beach. The Rainbow in Pomona a couple times too. I never made the LA clubs though...sigh. And I managed to hit loads of school dances all over Orange County.
@bkazmer Funny thing...you're the only person I ever knew who even had a clue about the Rendezvous...I was there 100's of time...1962 up until it burned down. And the Golden Bear..Airport Club, Cinnamon Cinder, Retail Clerks, El Monte Legion ...then, Pandoras Box and Whiskey a GoGo in west Hollywood...
Sadly it won't let me post the photo that proves this but go to Flickr search kazmer and in there bkazmer39 where I have a set called Rendezvous and the last photo shows it was never on the parking lot at any time.
Chris is mistaken about the location. It was not where the parking lot is now. It was where the apartment building is today. The Rendezvous was in the same block as the Balboa Inn. I attended hundreds of times and the past photos all show the block where the Rendezvous stood. The parking lot was there and is where we parked to go into the ballroom to dance to Surf Music and more.
Chris!! Where do you get your info?
