  • @Taiginator It caused more harm than good. Think about all the highlanders that had their homes burned and their familys slaughtered and they weren't even fighting. One of the worst men to ever live was the Duke of Cumberland

  • @DrinkToIreland Catholics were not a majority during this time, the reformation in Scotland had happend about 200 years beforehand. The Jacobites were fighting for the stuart line of kings to be on the British throne

  • @dmax631 The Stuarts were Catholic by this time tougth many Higthlanders were also most Scots werent Catholic.

  • i find hard to think to Bonnie Charlie Expedition as a Fight between catholics and Protestants.

Considering that in England (protestant) in that period was allied with the Austria (catholic) against the France (catholic) And France was allied with the Prussia (Protestant)- I think the Stuart Expedition must see as an episode of the fight between France and England in that period

  • Its a shame Scotland and England ever had too fight. So good together, as allies, but against each other...

  • @dubhlochan My friend the monarchy should be abolished just a personal point of view, I would of (if i was alive) supported Charlie if he wanted to be king of Scotland, I would how ever not og joined either if i knew he wanted to be King of the UK.

  • @TheComradeRoss When Charlie captures Edinburgh he must of thought the best thing would be to carry on. It wouldnt of being an easy choice to make when he reached Derby to turn around but the worst thing he did was fight a superior army with cannon and musket on a flat defenceless Culloden Moor. I am like you i am a Ross but i have Maclean blood in the veins. Charlie is our King

  • @dubhlochan I understand that mate but if he didnt cross the border then alot of his troops wouldn't of abandoned him, they wanted him as King of Scotland, nae UK. I have ancestors who fought for both sides and on my mothers side (the Stewart clan) they all abandoned him when he wanted to take London.

  • @TheComradeRoss because our Bonnie Prince wanted to regain the Crown of Great Britain for his exiled father James.Strong support from the mainly Catholic Clans of Scotland gave Charlie the force he needed to challenge the Hanoverians. The Highland Clans of his army were loyal to the moment he left Scotlands shores. The Stuarts were direct descendents of Bruce in turn i believe are the true Monarchs of Scotland

  • If the Whig Clans of the North likes of Macleod,Sutherland,Ross,Mackay,Munro's etc were supportive of James as they were of Protestant reform the history and current Scotland would surely have been different.SNP is Scotlands only hope now but what do i know i live in a shortbread tin

  • I don/t believe this-Even if Charles Edward Stuart had limited his claims only on the Scotland Crown . England cannot leave the Scotland to an allied of the France as was the Stuart-

  • Why did the Bonny Prince Charlie want to capture London he should of proclaimed Scotland to be Independent back then when he kicked the Royalist red coats out of Scotland that way he would of won. Loads of Troops abandoned the Jacobite cause due to Charlie wanting to march on London. Idiot :(.
