I just successfully replaced the mode dial myself on the 5D. It’s easy to do. The rubber grips are easy to take off to get to the screws. I did buy new double sided tape for the grips but the old tape on the grips glued back on just fine. Be highly careful of the ribbon cable locks on the circuit board. I transfer the dial lubrication from the old to the new and just used super glue to put the top icon plate to the dial. The parts are easy to find on ebay.

I've just used a small piece of toothpick lightly wedged into the dial against the camera body. Free and works perfectly.

I'm not sure why people WOULDN'T want to have this done. I seem to be cursed when it comes to accidentally sliding this dial out of position. I'll be regularly shooting wedding portraits, hear that my shutter is suddenly very long, look down to see that I'm in bulb mode and think HOW THE HELL??? The worst is when I'm shooting in AV mode, working fast paced through some time cruched portraits and then find afterwards that I'm in manual mode and the portraits are trashed and underexposed.

Glad I stumbled upon this video, this has been a major plague for this camera; I'll be taking mine in after this weekend's wedding, thanks for bringing this modification to my attention.

I have the 60d and can not stand it. The 40d dial was firm enough. For me its just annoying as I need the change modes constantly and its a right pain in the but. Can't there be an option to remove it?? If some people can have the options to install it why can't we have the option to remove it? PLEEEASE!

NICE MAN!!! :D I want this on my 7D, but I don't really need it.

@ObeyBrandon Yeah, it's a personal preference thing. Most people have zero issues with the dial. The way I shoot, I have a tendency to bump the dial, so I opted for the mod.
