"de-composition" is a site-specific performance collaboration between Tamara Ashley (UK) and Nala Walla (US.) Filmed at Fort Worden in Port Townsend, WA -- a decomissioned, decomposing military base -- the film explores themes of anachronism, isolation and decay. None of the footage was scripted or planned, hence the relevance of the title, de-composition.
Pursuing her PHd. studies of artists for whom the landscape is an integral part of their art-making, Tamara received a grant from Texas Women's University to work with Nala in the summer of 2009. Several durational performance events and films have resulted from continuing collaborations between the two.
That was so beautiful Nala! It hit deeply because you took me there to that bunker... I feel you helped with acknowledging the pain that has been held in those walls.
Thank you
