I went up there the end of April one year and there was still ice on the ponds and on the edges of the river. I would recommend waiting till the end of May or June. The Buck Rub Pub has cheap lodge rooms ($75 sleeps 3-4) and the bar/restaurant is right there. You may also want to check out Lopstick Inn. More expensive but the rooms are really nice. There is a fly shop at Lopstick that will have the match the hatch report and will give you information and free maps of where to go.

if i was to plan a trip to your town in say April, how is the fishing?

Im looking to finally get a trout fishing trip, anywhere other then stocked "put and take" trout we get here in RI.

Any tips on lodging or places to hit first and best months to come?

I live in Pittsburg i love the trout fishing. (Tip) don't park by the road and expect to catch fish hike in and you will have a better time :) good luck to all :)
